How do you answer “If you could pick…”?
English speaking: how to answer “If you could pick…?” questions. Astronaut Christina Koch answers from the space station: Q: If you could pick, where in space would you go now? A: I'd have to say that I would go to Mars. “I'd have to say…” = a soft, natural way to give your choice. “The reason I say that is because…” = now give your reason. If you could… → I would… (not “I will”) Great for speaking tests and small talk! Start with “I'd have to say…”.
What it means
- Answer like an astronaut If you could pick, where would you go?
- Give your choice (soft and natural): I'd have to say… Mars.
- Then give your reason: The reason I say that is because…
- If you could… → I would… I would go to Mars. I will go to Mars.
